ROBOTIC LAWNMOWER TERMS & CONDITIONS

Perimeter Wire Options

There are two options for the installation of the perimeter wire around the edge of your lawn.

One option is to peg the perimeter wire to the grass. The second option is to cut a small slit in the ground and bury it between 5 and 10 centimetres deep.

Pegging the perimeter wire down is a quicker option but can cause issues as when you peg the wire down, it needs to sit flush with the grass, and over the first few weeks, there could be a risk that the growing grass will push the wire up into the blades of the robot lawnmower causing a perimeter wire break or damage.

If you go for this option, you must run the blades of your robot lawn mower at the highest setting and slowly lower them until you achieve the desired cutting height over the space of a couple of weeks.

Eventually, the perimeter wire will disappear, as the grass grows over the top of it. This will roughly take four to eight weeks. Pegging the perimeter wire to the ground limits your ability to do grass maintenance activities such as aerating and dethatching your lawn, due to the risk of damaging the perimeter wire.

The second option is to bury the perimeter wire which will allow you to carry out routine lawn maintenance without fear of hitting or damaging the perimeter wire.

Burying the perimeter wire will mean that sometimes adjustments maybe needed in the first few weeks of operation, which we would be happy to make over those first couple of weeks using the robot.

We advise that the perimeter wire is placed a few centimetres further from any flower beds or obstacles so that it doesn’t drop off any edges or get stuck.  This will obviously leave you a few centimetres of uncut edging but will ensure your robot mower is safe.  We advise you to cut the edging by hand.

You can peg the wiring down initially if you feel this is a better option and once it’s up and running for a few days/a week you can bury the wire.  We would be happy to do this but there would be a small callout charge.  If you do choose to bury the wire at installation, we will make sure that it is done properly.  We do this by going round the edge of your lawn and creating a thin channel with an edging tool and putting the perimeter wire into it. It really doesn’t take too long at all but would depend on weather conditions at the time of installation. We cannot install the wire if the ground is too hard or under ice or snow.
